Questions about Sailing Around the World

What experience do I need?
None! Our licensed captain is on board the vessel at all times. However you'll be gaining world class sailing experience.

We do require that you take the Online sailing courses at NauticEd listed here: Skipper, Storm Tactics, Bareboat Charter, Weather, Maneuvering under Power and Off Shore Captain. NauticEd is an online sailing school providing sailing lessons for novice to advanced sailors.

Can I be the captain?
Well yes and no. At all times, the ultimate commander of the vessel is our licensed captain. Of course, you'll participate in operating the vessel and if the Captain deems you competant you'll be making most of the decisions and maneuvers. As you must understand, we are protecting your asset in asserting this steadfast rule of the ocean for all the owners sake.

Can I choose the ports of call?
The sailing course over the next 4 years is presubscribed by the logistics manager at the Latitudes and Attitudes team. The course has been chosen from years of practical sailing experience to give the owners the best possible route to follow for safety, adventure and enjoyment reasons. This prevents any of the owners from disagreement.

How long wil my boat stay in each port?
Typically, in major destinations, the vessel may stay for up to 3 months. In other locations as little as 3 weeks. This gives the owners a chance to experience the best of the best or to seek out those nooks and crannies of the world.

What is the resell price?
While we can not promise any particular numbers, typically a boat that is well maintained and 4 years old might sell for approximatley 70-75% of it's original value.

Can I split my ownership stake?
Yes. The Fractional Owners agreement allows for owners to split their share with one other person. Each split owner would share the time or travel together and consequently, the costs would be divided in half amking this a very affordable option. Pole your friends NOW!

Can I buy more than 1/6th?
Yes. The Fractional Owners Agreement allows for an owner to buy as many 1/6th shares as they desire.

Can I get more information on the Beneteau 57?
This is a link to Sailing Magazine test of the Beneteau57 plus you can visit the Beneteau USA site on the Beneteau 57 and additionally you can view the PDF of the Seafaring360 Beneteau 57.

Can I get more information on the Shannon Global 52?
Visit the Shannon Global 52 website and look at the Cutter version.

What if there is a breakdown?
The advantage of a new yacht is that breakdowns occur much less often than an older boat. However, given the circumstance, the partnership syndicate pays collectively for the repairs.

Who looks after the boat?
The vessel will have a home base at each crusing ground whereby the owners can operate the boat from. This home base marina is selected from our network of marinas world wide. Each marina has service facilites to help maintain world traveling vessels and the maintenance is orchestrated through the Captain.

Who pays for fuel?
The Owners collectively pay for the fuel on passages. However, when an owner is using the boat in a crusing ground, that owner must return the boat back to the home dock full of fuel, water tanks toped up and waste tank pumped out.

How much time can I select in each reservation period?
Each Owner can select up to a maximum of 3 weeks in any crusing ground. Additionally they may select the passage to or from that cruising ground. For example they may select the crossing to Fiji and then up to spend 3 weeks in Fiji. This ensures that not all the time in any one location can be blocked by one person.

What is the downpayment?
To secure your position you need to place a $750 deposit with the Financial Management company, Nautic7. This is the same management company that Beneteau uses for their coastal Fractional Ownership program. This deposit is refundable until all 6 people have been found. Then each owner is required to put down 20% of their 1/6th share when the boat is ordered from the factory. At 1/2 way through the construction an additional 40% is required. The final 40% is due at closing.

What if our yacht is not being used by the others?
An integral part of fractional ownership is that since you are part owner in the yacht, you have access to the unused time. The scheduling computer program allows for anyone to reserve the boat with out the time counting against their 8 week allocation if the boat is not reserved at a point 28 days in the future. This gives plenty of time to book airline tickets. In doing this an owner can sail the yacht for more than the 8 weeks per year.

How is our yacht purchased and owned?
The yacht is purchased by a Delaware LLC company. Each owner is an owning member in the company.

Is there a formal agreement?
Yes. There are several agreements. A Fractional Owners Agreement between all the Owners. This agreement is extensive and covers all the what if's. There is the Owning Company LLC Agreement which covers how the company is managed and operated. There is an agrement between the Owning Company and the Financial Manager. There is an agreement between the Owning Company and the Logistics Manager and Captain.

Who manages the logistics?
The enormous seafaring experience of the Latitudes and Attitudes team gives rise to serious expertise in this area. Thus the Logistics Manager is one of the team members and most often is Bob Bitchin.

I'm serious but not ready to commit - what should I do?
